Algebra (P6) Practice
Master algebraic expressions, simplification, substitution, and simple linear equations. Algebra in PSLE is limited in scope but heavily weighted β these questions reward careful, stepwise working.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Treating 'n' and '1n' as different (1n = n)
Errors with negative signs when expanding brackets (e.g. β2(x β 3) = β2x + 6, not β2x β 6)
Confusing 'find the value of' (substitute) with 'simplify' (collect like terms)
Practice Questions
Try each question. When you're stuck, reveal the Socratic strategy β a guided hint that teaches you how to think, not just what to write.
Find the value of 3x + 5 when x = 4.
Simplify: 4y + 7 β 2y + 3.
A book costs $w and a pen costs $2. Express the total cost of 3 books and 5 pens in terms of w.
Parent & Tutor Insight
PSLE algebra questions usually start with 'Express ... in terms of n' or 'Find the value of ... when n = ...'. These are two distinct skills β practise both types, not just one.
