Why does my child keep getting BODMAS wrong?
BODMAS (Brackets → Orders → Division/Multiplication → Addition/Subtraction) is counter-intuitive because we naturally read left to right. Practise writing numbers beneath each operation step-by-step rather than doing it mentally. With 30–40 questions of deliberate practice, most P5 students can automate this.
Is place value tested directly in PSLE?
Yes — questions such as 'Express 0.04 million as a whole number' appear regularly. Knowing that 1 million = 1 000 000 and using place-value logic (shift the decimal 6 places) is a core PSLE skill.
What is the difference between rounding and estimating?
Rounding replaces a number with a nearby 'round' value (to a specific place value). Estimation uses rounded numbers to make a quick approximate calculation. Both are tested at P5 level.
